This vibrant, drought-tolerant annual features large, semi-double blooms in a delightful mix of bubblegum pink, lemon yellow, orange and raspberry red. Growing to about 25 cm (10") tall, it is perfect for borders, containers, or wildflower meadows. Unlike many species of poppies, this California type blooms continuously until frost, providing long-lasting color with minimal maintenance.

Growing recommendations

(Eschscholzia californica)  Annual. Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost, pressing them lightly into well-drained soil without covering. Germination usually occurs in 10–30 days at 16–18°C (60–65°F). Space seedlings about 15 cm (6") apart, and choose a sunny location with poor to average soil—overly fertile soil can reduce flowering. Once established, water sparingly, as the plants are drought-tolerant. Remove spent flowers as desired to encourage more blooms throughout the season.

We're trialing and breeding new varieties!

This is the most challenging and thrilling part of our work.

The trialing allows us to test varieties of a same species side by side and determine which one(s) taste and perform the best.

Breeding and variety maintenance means selecting for traits that are desirable such as flavor, texture, disease resitance, earliness and hardiness, just to mention a few.
