This hardy kale variety is an heirloom from Holland. Its large unruffled leaves stay quite tender and get tinged with purple after frost. Stems are an attractive purple.

Growing recommendations
Kale can be direct seeded or seeded indoors and transplanted for an earlier crop. Transplant or direct seed every 12’’ in rows 18’’ apart. Harvest bottom leaves as they get to a size you like.

The trialing allows us to test varieties of a same species side by side and determine which one(s) taste and perform the best.
Breeding and variety maintenance means selecting for traits that are desirable such as flavor, texture, disease resitance, earliness and hardiness, just to mention a few.
