=A tough plant with tender leaves and stems. Leaves are green and smooth with purple veins and stems, pretty enough to be an ornamental. Very hardy, the leaves get sweeter after frost. The whole plants can overwinter if kept under cover. Can also be harvested as baby-leaf.

Growing recommendations
Kale can be direct seeded or seeded indoors and transplanted for an earlier crop. Transplant or direct seed every 12’’ in rows 18’’ apart. Harvest bottom leaves as they get to a size you like.

This is the most challenging and thrilling part of our work.
The trialing allows us to test varieties of a same species side by side and determine which one(s) taste and perform the best.
Breeding and variety maintenance means selecting for traits that are desirable such as flavor, texture, disease resitance, earliness and hardiness, just to mention a few.
